…it was nestled amongst some cabins in a woodsy park by a lake outside of Chicago. The uptempo psytrance rig was setup in a lodge and the chill-out tent was down by the bonfire. A crazy magical night! Chilluminati crew and the 80+ attendiees kept the vibes irie and positive. There were so many highlites, but here’s what sticks in MY mind:
Toki’s fast set was tight, with extreme psychadelia pouring out of the speakers.
Sometime during it, the pheonix sculpture was burned, but i was inside and missed it.
SOT’s chill set was very groovy; lots of didgeridoo and phat beats. Underfoot’s fast set was off the hook, as usual. Kaiser Soze burned it down after that… Derby and some other cats laid out some tasty vibes as well. Shai’s vocally-rich and percussive downbient set was a fine treat to bring in a post-delirious sunday morning… Also there was the Spunn crew doing some serious fire antics, a rope web of sin, and a decent bonfire. People were chill and engaged in heady chat and ecstatic dance. It was a good time. Even Mother Nature showed up with a few perioudic downpours and some punctual lightning strikes! I wish i could have been a little more social, but Alice and her sky of diamonds really had me occupied
Can’t wait till Geologic!!
~namate good people~

This was indeed awesome. I had to confirm that Kaiser Soze played one of the best sets I have ever heard him play. Was a wonderful event with a great mix of people, some amazing natural events, rituals, etc. Thanks for all you do Chilluminati!

+++

i wanted to say thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality
for putting on such a great event. it was really an amazing
experience and a great welcome home party for me in a way.

+++

This was my first outdoor psy party, and it blew my expectations away… i
have never experienced such a great time at any type of electronic music
show, and i can easily say that this was the most fun i have ever had gettin
all sweaty thanks to everyone that came along on the trip, the
friendliness of you ubers truly enhances the night. With the variety of
fire, black lights, swimming, nature, and so many different types of
psytrance, i would like to give one more big thank you to the Chilluminati
for throwing this party. CANNOT wait for the next one. Thanks again Jeff Z
for all your hard work which has allowed us iowan’s to experience Chicago’s
psy scene!!! we ? u!

Thanks to all of you for making this a wonderful experience. Even the weather couldn’t stop us, and in some instances it actually played a spiritual role in the entire event. The lightning and the thunder with the fire was amazing.

For me this was a pre-party for Geologic. Going for a three day event, I’ll definitely pack better, and pace myself more (get more sleep . )

I too agree that this rates very high on the list of best nights of my life, and I’m very happy to share it with the rest of you. Sorry that I had to bail a bit early, and didn’t get a chance to say good byes.

+++

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the Event. It was an incredible time, and what an absolutely perfect place. I really hope to meet up there again, but too bad it will be busy all summer. =(

+++

Great job dude! That was a lot of fun.

+++

just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed meeting everyone recently at the Firebird Festival. I am from st. Louis and the drive was worth every mile.

+++

Each person was special in their own unique way. I look forward to becoming better acquainted as the yeargoes by..

If you know of any of your tribe going to Burning Man I would love to say “Hello” to them via email. This will be my first year there so I would love to hear from others who have proceeded me and are going this year too.

Namaste,
Khats

I want to thank lovely Devorah for her construction of the Phoenix fire sculpture, Matt & Jennifer for their rope web jungle gym, Psygomin and Kris for massive help with deco and setup, Dan for building the bonfire; all the people who moved their cars when I asked them to; all the people who picked up their trash without being asked; Rebeccah, Vito and Garon for the nature walk at a nearby bog; Spunn and the Iowa crew for dazzling fire dance all night; the guys from Nebraska, Iowa and even Louisiana for driving so damn far and being such integral parts of the community; and the venue for being tolerant of the madness and never asking us to lower the volume or otherwise complain.

Thanks to everyone for being good citizens and keeping the grounds in good shape so we could get invited back.

thanks too to Mel/Asylem for her fire juggling and poem that started the phoenix ablaze, and Matt for his hidden metal phoenix inside the blaze (most people were not aware that the bigger phoenix hid a smaller metal phoenix inside).

Thanks to Kaiser for sound that pierced the night.

And of course we thank all the touchsamadhi, tranceplant, divine balance and audiognome DJs who created a crystal palace of living sound that, for awhile, became a world.

TIME:
The site is open noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday. Pyrogenesis, which will start with animation of the fire sculpture, will happen around 8 or 9 pm. Music throughout the day and night.
LOCATION:
Close to Wauconda, Illinois.
You will need to drive to this location, there is no public transportation.
PARKING:
Those who arrive late may not find parking close to the site. There is alternative parking. Details will be made available.
RUDIMENTARIES:
We will be in a very secluded grove, surrounded by trees on three sides. There is a lake we are a five minute walk from. There are toilets, showers, and running water on site. There are places to build cooking fires. Lodge with fireplace. There are communal (shared) heated cabins. Swimming pool, volleyball courts, and miles of hiking trails. There are supermarkets and fast food nearby, about a ten minute drive from the site.
FOOD and CONSUMABLES
Bring your own food and drink.
CRASH:
You can sleep in the cabins, and don’t need to bring a tent. They have bunk style beds, you will need a sleeping bag or blankets. You can set up a tent if you want.
RAIN PLANS
Rain will not affect DJ performances.
HOW DO I FIND OUT THE LOCATION?
You will be emailed directions upon registration.
WHY DOES THE EVENT COST $25?
This is an expensive location, and they charge per head. This is the only outdoor location we have found in the Chicago area supportive of an all-night event. Your money all goes to pay for the cost of the campground. The $25 does not begin to cover the cost of firewood for the bonfire, and rental expenses. So we ask if you can to please contribute $35, so the organizers do not get stuck paying for all the firewood and rentals (that costs us around $250-350).
I BRING?
Mosquito repellant. Sleeping bag, bedroll, or blankets. Food and drink. Grill and barbecue supplies if wanted. Utensils and cups. Warm jacket for night, rain protection. Costume. Folding chairs, ground pads. Swimsuit.
Have we forgotten something? Probably.
SWIMMING
There is an indoor swimming pool available.
CHILDREN
Event is kid friendly/optional, but you are responsible for your own. Same charge for children as for adults.
RULES
  • No alcohol is allowed by the camp.
  • No pets allowed.
  • No flames allowed in cabin.
  • Be safe, responsible, and take care of those under your protection.
  • The usual federal and state laws apply.

We would like to thank past and present Wild Onion organizers and special contributors Kelly Stockman, Morgyn, Diahnn Estes, Leslie Peet, Tagjalast the Terrible, Matt and Jennifer Kostalek, Jai Luster, Susan LaJoie.

The name of the Chicago area, Chicagou, is widely believed to derive from the Indian name for the Wild Onion plant.

In many theosophical works the Secret Fire of the alchemists is described as kundalini, the ’serpentine’ working power in the body of the acetic. It is an electric, fiery, occult or Fohatic power, the great pristine form which underlies all organic and inorganic matter. H.P. Blavatsky calls it ‘an electro-spiritual force, a creative power which, when aroused into action, can as easily destroy as it can create.’ This cautionary point is the reason why the secrets of alchemy can not be divulged to the idle-minded or curious, and why only those who have gained the power to control their own self may be told how that power can be aroused in man.
