This was the swankiest club I've ever set foot in, and perhaps the mere fact that I choose "swanky" to describe it makes me the kind of person who doesn't belong in such an establishment. I'm a hardworking, artsy guy who makes a decent living, but damn if I didn't feel like I wasn't good enough to breathe the air there. Just about everyone looked like they strolled in fresh from a salon / shopping spree at Sax Fith Avenue.
Plus, what was with roping off the Round Bar? That kind of elitist exclusion put a bit of a damper on this show, as compared to the one I saw in Dallas . . . where everyone was more laid back.
"The sound at the Sound Bar is the best I've heard at a club, which amply made up for a somewhat unfortunate layout of the dance floor."This I partially agree with. It was great hearing those extended-cut tracks on such a pristine system, but it sure was frustrating maneuvering through that human gumbo. I constantly felt like I was bumping or being bumped.
Highlights
- meeting new friends and seeing old ones
- talking about/plotting future events with aforementioned friends
- Derby and Igor's tag set -- on-point as usual
Bummer points
- only 1 unreleased track in IM's set
- people huddled motionless on dancefloor with drinks
- Duvdev's DJ performance = not "all that?" // I was already getting my coat to go distribute flyers by this point, but heard some weirdness.
Tracks coming to an abrupt end, silence, etc. I saw S.C. roll his eyes more than once. - The valet parking staff forced me to remove my car at 2:30, and were pissed I didn't leave sooner. So I basically had to stop giving out flyers, gather up the carpoolers and leave without saying a proper goodbye to anyone. That sucked.

Here is my brief view of the night:
Yes, the sound in the place is great.
The dance floor is setup really weird. The decor is nice and done well, the two flight stairs in the middle of the dance floor is really strange.
The music, a pop version of psytrance. There are good parts to the songs, but there are way to many parts that ruin it. I hope this show and future ones gets more people into psy, but when did psy become "high-end" club music? I suppose when acts like IM started making pop tunes. Like New York, I am sure there will be two different parts to the psy scene in Chicago. Let's try and not confuse the two.

the vibe blew away my expectations!! . . . A lot of people came just to see Infected.
There were a lot of trancers there too. The crowd was cheering and singing along to the semi live words of duvdev.
that's an accurate review on trance addict although the club was packed and the security were asking people to back off the main stage where IM were playing.
I thought it was super show, and a great intro for chicago into the realm of psychedelic trance.
I can also see how the commerical aspect to this scene may explode and leave us small timers in the dust wondering what happened.
