On Isratrance

Another review by Don Dresser
========================================================

requoted with permission

so i decided to head to chicago this weekend to catch sound tribe
sector 9 (currently touring for you live music fans, definitely worth
checkin out, tour dates at www.sts9.com) and head to the chilluminati
event ‘metatronic’. these cats certainly know how to throw down…i
was absolutely shocked when i showed up at 10:30 and the party was
already half full, and it filled in pretty quick-like after that; this
is even more shocking for those of you familiar with the midwest where
“trance” is a dirty word that sends electronic music fans running. the
evening started out with shai on the chill tip, then S.O.T, Derby, and
Kaiser Soze brought the full-on madness that kept everybody movin
(scott played so hard he had people raving on top of the speakers),
then Dan Efex came on and gradually brought us back to the chill zone
as people started to wuss out and leave.

All in all a pretty awesome party, lots of good people from various
states (representatives from WI, IL, IN, OH, MI, probably a couple
others i didn’t talk to). glad to see the scene moving inwards from
the coasts! mark your calendars for the chilluminati festival in july,
it’ll be hoppin!

adapting this from something Derby wrote on Isratrance (thanks Derb. . . )

Thanks to Airyk and Sarah, who came from Iowa AND helped set up early AND helped us at the door AND help us outside turning people away AND helped clean up at the end of the party AND never complained AND had a great time while do it all!! Please come again.

Thanks to Eklypz who came from even further away in Iowa, and spent massive time helping setup and at the door and outside, then later with cleanup. Without you it would have been a completely different (in a bad way) event. We owe you several!

Thanks to Paul and Daniel of Wisconsin Audiognomes for adding lots of positive energy to the VIBE and taking great pics AND working the door AND turning away people at the entrance.

Thanks to our Vision Architects, Psymbolic.com (julee and Troy) for putting in their extra time to set up wonderful deco and running the video projections all night. Thanks to Troy for putting in way too much time outside and at the door dealing with the pissed off crowds outside.

Thanks to Patrick and SHai for providing some excellent CHAI tea through PsyCHAI, and for their support on the door.

Thanks to Kaiser and SOT for setting up and Running the sound and providing wonderful music throughout the night.

Thanks to all the DJs Shai, SOT, Dan Efex, Derby and Kaiser Soze for all the homework leading up to a smooth and powerful evolution of sound throughout the night. Thanks to DanEfex for his “downtempo chillage” what a great set by an amazing person and dj.

Thanks to The Fixer and Devorah for their support on the door and outside all night, keeping the water and toilet paper and spare change running, continued support, phone calls, and organization, running to Costco, and networking skills for making this event possible. Without them we would still be in our bedrooms (damn straight!).

Thanks to the fire troupe Spunn for their amazing, entrancing fire sets just before daybreak. Matt and Melissa, you rule the dawn.

Thanks to Sameer and Elon for bring smiles, drums and breakdancing.

Thanks to Ben of Modern Magics who brought his lasers, laser car and other great light toys;

To Mike of Darklight Studios, who brought some artwork that hung all night near the Psychai table, and really added depth amidst the tapestries;

To all of you who drove to Metatronic from Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana and downstate Illinois just to be at this event.

As those of you who came know, we filled the venue in about an hour, and had to turn away most people who showed up after 11. Over the course of the night, we might have turned away as many people as actually got into the party.

We had anticipated this might be a problem, which was why we set up about a month before Metatronic our RSVP button. Unfortunately many people did not go to the website or otherwise did not know about the RSVP.

IMPORTANT! Get directions, don’t just go and drive around. The only way to get to the venue is by several one way streets. It is easy to get lost.

There is plenty of parking on Knox, and within one block of the venue. Don’t park in front of driveways and fire hydrants, or you will get towed. There will be a sign for METATRONIC on the door of the venue. Just walk in, don’t knock. Go upstairs. You will have to open 2 or 3 doors before you’re in the venue, just go on up.

Stuff about the venue

We ask that you respect all local laws and customs.
The venue asks us not to smoke inside.
To avoid attracting attention from authorities, we ask smokers not to loiter out in large crowds outdoors in front of the venue. Take a walk, move around, don’t make a big visible crowd that attracts squad cars.Thank you

 we recommend you guarantee your entrance by RSVP.
$5.00 suggested donation…
Larger donations would be greatly appreciated, since we will not break even on this event.

All donations will go towards event costs such as venue, sound, free food, chai, water.

Stay tuned - our next event after February will be April 9, 2005.
