Thanks Chilluminati for yet another awesome event.
;D
Everything, including the weather, was perfect.
I’m
still bleary-eyed and mind-melted… so much good stuff I didn’t
want to miss.

Meghan’s set was just killing it. A wicked
journey from the funky into the hard and dark.

Primordial
Ooze was awesome. Scott and Igor seemed to have a blast rawking
out their original tracks and me and the fans were gladly eating
it up..

Also enjoyed Moke’s set, lots of funk and groovy
darkness.

Safa’s set was very refreshing. Perfect morning
music.

Shai played some wicked tracks too. And Toki. And
Nod. and… Actually, everyone’s sets were just stellar.  The
VJs too! Thanks for coming out Rubin!

Deco was stunning,
as usual. Kudos to Alison and Deb.
My only complaint: video at
the chillstage would have been the icing…

Workshops went
off fairly well, considering this was the first time it was
organized. I hope they continue to be a staple at Chilluminati
fests to come. Thanks JeffZ!

No complaints, still smiling
(and bleary-eyed).
Looking forward to people’s pix and
reports.

ps: Psygoof revealed!  :D

Beautiful weekend, perfect weather, fall leaves.  I did
some much needed crying to Saturday’s sunrise.  Didn’t do
much dancing but spent a lot of time catching up with old friends
that I haven’t seen in years.

PsyGoof:  hehehehehe
More on that later this week when I get some more words in me.

What a wonderful event!  Beautiful surroundings, beautiful
music, beautiful people.  A magical night under the eye of
the moon.  Sprawling on a picnic table watching the dawn turn
into fluffy pink and orange loveliness.  So well thought out,
and superbly executed.  It was great to see all the familiar
faces again and to meet some great new people as well.
Thanks to Underfoot for inviting me to VJ, Mason Dixon and Jef &
Deb for supplying some sheets for rear projection, the madly
skilled DJs for warping my brain, and all the rest of the
Chilluminati peeps - you know who you are!  An apology to the
young couple who I brought down by making them “feel like we
are infested with maggots!”   :’(  I forgot to
bring my camera, so if y’all got pics, please post them as I’d
like to put a few up on pakapaka.org.  My comrade Dale
brought his video camera so I should have some footage shortly
which I will post for your enjoyment.  This will probably be
the last event I do for awhile.  I’m taking a break for
awhile as my wife and I are expecting our first child shortly!
Thanks to all for a night to remember!

I had a wonderful time at the party.  Got to check me out
some honey’s in da house.

Who was that guy leading the
workshops on Saturday afternoon?  That took some guts to get
up there in front of everyone and try to shake us to life.
He’s far braver then I could have been.  That showed a strong
strength of character.  Did my spirit good!

Thank you
all!

“got to check me out some honey’s in da house.”

this
statement in of itself, just proves you dont get the psy/goa
spirit………

That point aside, I had a wonderful time at
this gathering. The venue has to be the most comfortable, and best
equiped i have ever been to. Having such a selection of food
available, plus a bar, lake, plenty of camping, It was just a
joy.
The vibe was very nice to, and very family oriented.

Very
sad i missed Primordial Oozes set, but from those i caught,
Medisin, Underfoot, Meghan, Collison & Atkif were the standout
trance bringers of the weeked, and of course my cohort in crime
Random brough it down hard on you all.
On the downtempo front i
really loved Kaiser’s, Sot’s, and Nod’s sets…..

For the
birching half of the review though, You folks  need to learn
some stamina. The party is just getting started at 3am, not
ending. It seems more than half of those in attendance, just paid
$40 to go camping with your friends for the weekend. It seems so
few of those in attendance ever made it to either the trance floor
or chill stage, and so many artsists that played were only playing
for themselves, especially in the chillout.
Mad props goes to
the Iowa posse for keeping the main stage occupied at least and
dancing their asses off in true spirit of the sound

That
minor beef ( or was it chicken) aside, I had a wonderful time and
hope to see many of you again soon

Meanwhile, I know I was able to give out music to many people. I’m

I agree…  There was piss poor attendance for your
set.  I personally was talking to Random while I was
listening to it, so I wasn’t dancing a whole lot, but it was
because I had been dancing straight to Derby, Shai, Collision,
Aktif, Meghan, and Random before you (My legs still are feeling
it).  When I was dancing though, I was the guy in the dark
blue hoodie bouncing around.  Killer morning set, by the
way.  What you said is totally true, and I’m glad you had the
balls to say it.  I know the term “rave”seems to be
kind of avoided in this circle, but it certainly isn’t just a
weekend campout.  Keep dancing people!

Mike, that
video is really funny.  I especially like the part where
you’re in the bushes eating them.

Doesn’t help that the space is so spread out.  I mean,
you need that for a festival, but it makes it easy for
folks to retreat into their hidey-holes.  No work-around for
this, other than to rope more attendees, and that means bringing
aboard more commercial headlining talent completely removed from
the psy arena (because even if we brought a major psy act, we’d
still net roughly the same crowd).  So it becomes a choice of
sacrificing integrity for headcount.  For now we’ll stick
with integrity…but barren dancefloors *do* suck, and it *does*
sometimes feel like a waste of good music.

Also,
when you’re working at an event, it’s impossible to can’t catch
everyone you’d like to.  Like, I was really enjoying your
set, but then had to leave to take care of comping folks.
One less dancer on the floor!

One of the things keeping my
spirits up about the chill area was that campsite just on top of
the hill — not out of range of the sound.  So that was kind
of an audience, albeit out of view.

I personally prefer one
night events because, with less creature comforts and a shorter
span, people really give it their all.  They’re there for the
sole purpose of getting down.  And then, *after* it’s over,
they go home and sleep.

First off thanks Chilluminati for bringing out us
Goahead’s
and letting us be a part of this
experience.

Before
anything is written about anything at all,
I hope everyone
stops to take a minute to
realize what it takes to actually
pull something
like this off. So, I really extend my thanks
and
gratitude for all of the planning and hard work.
I know
first hand what it takes to promote
events, and sometimes a
very simple thank you
goes a long way.

The weather was
amazing!
Primordial Ooze is onto something!
Derby and JJ
threw down an epic sets!
Meghan’s set under a full moon was all
I could ask for!
Chillin with Shai by the fire was good
times!
Toki’s Closing set was proper!
The only thing between
Ohio is Indiana and
Illinois. Chillin with the Iowa folks made
me
feel right at home.
I loved playing Chill sets back to
back with NOD!

Speaking of Chillout. I hope you all realize
that
Chill stage is one of the best I have ever seen.
The
location right by the lake is amazing. That
was the second time
I had a chance to spin chill
at Sunrise by the lake and it has
been a great
experience both times.

Thanks again for a
great time!

i think the midwest scene may be in more of the one-nighter
phase right now, though i really enjoy the chance to stretch
things out for a full weekend. let people get a taste of the
one-nighters all fall/winter/spring and maybe by next summer
they’ll be ready for a proper weekend rager (or a 5-day in CO ;)
)

i personally wussed out the second night because i wanted
to be somewhat coherent for the trip home (and i knew that monday
morning i had to go rescue a network that went ass-plode while i
was out of town), but i was definitely bummed that i missed the
infamous morning paradigm shift (and probably another fucking
gorgeous sunrise).

i was once again overwhelmed by the
enthusiasm of the attendees (especially the psyowans!) and how
excited folks out there still get for trance festivals, rather
than having to hear people bitching about the little things that
they don’t like…had some great neighbors in the camp zone from
parts unknown (or un-remembered, in any case) and generally had a
fucking blast all weekend. at one point (after his set) medisin
told me that it was the best birthday present he could have asked
for…y’all really do have some good shit building up there, i’m
really excited to see the continuance into next summer!

saturday
night i had a bit of a ‘moment’ looking at the chilluminati
collage, thinking about how very lucky i am to be able to feel
like a member of such a great community up there even though i
live too far away to really be directly involved…many thanks to
all the organizers and participants who have created so many
beautiful spaces (in several beautiful places) and opened
themselves up to all us travelling freaks coming through!

hopin
to make my thanksgiving trip back up to chicago long enough to go
check the psyowa scene, so perhaps i’ll be seein some of y’all
again before too long…

Thank Devorah for that, and the amazing contributions of
Dimitry and Pauldo.

The Chill Stage represented about 2 1/2
days of prep time and work not including the efforts of Dimitry
and Pauldo.

If we are sharing beefs one of mine would be
the degree to which people take deco for granted and don’t realize
how much more work, arguably, it is than what the other artists
do.

I think you’re reading way too much into the dancefloor. It was
fricking cold at night, and not everyone is the macho uberstomper
that some are.

Secret Fire and Sacred Earth both had very
hiper early morning dance scenes that lasted to daybreak. It was
also alot warmer!! It was all weather not some metaphysical or
existential quality of the Midwest or the “scene.”

I
am more for multi-night scenes because for deco and setup it is
more bang for the buck. We spend the same amount of time on deco
for a 3 night event as a one night event. It feels lame to go just
one night now that I’ve got a taste for it. Of course all the
non-deco people don’t see that, they only do one set during the
whole event, so as long as their set is complete they’ve spent
their load and what’s the point of the second night?

I meet
way more people on multi-night events too. and there are so many
more travellers!! It is a night/day difference between one-night
and multi-night parties. I am all into community/meeting
people/travellers so one of the things I have learned this year is
that I believe that one night scenes are a necessity in the
Midwestern Winter, but the rest of the year they are weak.

But
the people bleeding their lifeblood on these events determine what
happens, and I think it depends on how much the organizers can
handle taking days off work, missing sleep, and driving hours to
the venue. All this takes a toll.

i think the cold definitely took its toll on the
dancefloor…i know that was part of the reason i went to sleep
saturday night (shit i almost couldn’t get myself out of my tent
in time for my set on the chill stage! :P ). we’ve had ‘weak’
dancefloors here in north carolina before as well - there’s really
no predicting how people will react once they get out to the
party. i think y’all did a great job of preparing people for the
long haul - good balance in the lineup, warm fire to dance near,
plenty of psyowans out and about, but sometimes the crowd just
wusses out (or blows their wad on friday night). plus, its the end
of what’s been a pretty long summer season…i’ve spent more
weekends camping out at festivals than i have sleeping in the
house i moved into a couple of months ago. when you combine that
with drive time and other real life bullshit it can be hard to
keep it rockin all weekend long…

i definitely do value
the deco, and i know how much time & energy goes into
it…i’ve helped shane (the devotee) with his spandex/string art
at a few events here and in DC  - including the infected
mushroom show where i sadly missed my opportunity to tear out
their larynxes and prevent more singing - and i realize its a lot
more physical on-site work than it generally takes to dj. there’s
also plenty of pre-show prep to do, making the designs &
building shit in whatever fashion you prefer. this is why god gave
us red bull :)

however, i think djs and other musicians
dedicate plenty of time and energy to their part of the event as
well…while i only played 2 sets (1.5 hours and 2-ish hours with
a little tag-team action) i spend a huge amount of time and money
outside of events acquiring new music and filtering through it to
pick out the choice goodies - i also tend to spend a lot of time
at the event itself listening to other chill djs so i don’t play
the same shit over again (though admittedly this weekend i did
less of that than usual) and thinking about what exactly i am
going to play. with all that going on, its great to know that
there are people who are dedicated to making the visual side of
the party just as immersive as the musical side…but don’t forget
that the soundsystem will almost always be heavier than the deco
;)

and on a completely unrelated note, that video was great
mike - fit quite well with the treva whateva in the background :P

I don’t mean to shortchange DJs. I am talking more about the
lack of personal acknowledgements of the efforts of the deco
artist. DJs seem to do a better job of getting kudos and applause
for their work.

Julee has told me it is not uncommon for
deco artists to spend days setting up an installation and most
people not even recognize who the artists are. I imagine that
leads to a pretty high burnout rate on the part of deco artists.

I liked the industrial, totally thought it fit in well, totally
danceable and I had seen a sizeable number of people dancing
during Psych0tron’s set.  I personally got 2 people to attend
the event on an industrial act being present.  That same
person used to go to a lot of raves previously and he had a view
that the event was going to be a typical old skool rave with a
certian criminal element.  He ended up commenting on the
great nature of the people in attendance, the relaxed atmosphere,
good art and good music.  I wonder how much of the
Chilluminati parties are associated with “rave” or not,
how much some people might like us to be less rave or more rave?
I def try to bring in old skool ravers, great for people who
may have been burned out on the rave scene years ago, introduce
them to our little psyscene.

on this deco recognition debate

Deco is an essential
part of most  events, that contributes to the atmosphere,
vibe and overall context and emoition of it. It can be a thankless
task, and is probably one of the most time consuming parts of
event set up. I know ive done it plenty of times and have many
batiks, and tapesties at home, plus oodles of other items
necessary to creat the atmosphere

However we create these
events for the music, not the deco, not the alters, so it only
goes with out saying that those that are the reason for the event
would be the most celebrated.

It no doubt a synergistic
relationship, but i also have been to some very magical
underground events in the desert, and other natural locals, where
deco was sparse if non-existant, and it did not diminish the
energy or vibe.

Further more, I am willing to bet that
Random as well as Scott & Igor put just as much time into
preparing their live sets as was spent on deco set up and
concepts.  I also persoanlly put alot of work into my dj
sets. Though i can just hop on the decks and play, I like to have
a concept of proper flow emoting and vibe to a set. This takes
searching for the right choices in music, scoring new and old to
find the right compliments. I also will match tracks on key from
time to time, and this takes “homework” as i call it.

So please just cause a set may be over in a hour, dont
think thats all that went into it.  Sour Grapes dont do
anyone anygood, and only serve to ruffle feathers.

On
the danceflor debate, Don has summed it up preety good, but i
think the single night thing might work better for the midwest
scene as it seems they have not fully broken out of the “rave
time schedule yet” and are still adapting to the psy/ goa
ideal.  If you go to SF, LA or NY, as well as almost any
forign trance scene, the peak point of the outdoor  party is
between 7am and noon. Not 3am. 3am is the peak point for house and
jungle and other edm genres.
I think that with time this will
catch on as people slowly get more acustomed to it, The Iowans are
proof of that, but getting people used to it wiill take time. I
think also it in part has  to do with bashfullness. I takes
alot more balls to dance in the daylight when everyone can really
see how silly we look.

I think a great idea would be have
an event that starts at midnight or even later  and ends at
noon. But cycle thru genres and build energy with a single stage.
Downtempo to breaks, to prog to psy, with the psy not coming on
untill around 4am. By that time the crowds should be amped and
waiting for it, and still have the energy to go strong into the
morning.

my 2cents, though with this long of a ramble, its
more like a quarter

However we create these events for the music, not the deco, not
the alters, so it only goes with out saying that those that are
the reason for the event would be the most celebrated.

“it goes without saying” - no it doesn’t, because
I completely disagree. Without the deco and the creation of sacred
space, this kind of event becomes indistinguishable from a rave or
any other music event. I most definitely do not do it for the
music. I do it for the balance of light/sound/dance/atmosphere. If
I lose a critical portion, I  think it is no longer the kind
of party worth celebrating.

If we had mountains or ocean
nearby, we could have a different kind of space where deco might
be needed less or in a different way. But I think space needs to
be created, like pagans draw circles to create space.

Deco
requires many hours of work immediately prior to the event,
whereas dj’s can spread their work out over many weeks in theory
if not in practice. It is a different kind of pressure.

oi… let’s not get into the whole thing of who/what’s more
important. We value every contribution towards the event, and
everyone is thankful for every single drop of sweat that goes into
it. and it’s not just about music, it’s really about everything!
If it was just about the deco, then stay home and decorate your
bedrooms. if it was just about the music, then stay home and
listen to your headphones. if it was just about the people, then
come out more to Onomatopoeia every Wed in Chicago. But hence,
it’s not. so let’s not get into it :)

well, I will chalk it all up to personal preference then. You
do raise a good point that deco is more a all at once labor
intensive undertaking, than the spaced out preperation for a
set.
However I have, as i did this past weekend, given all my
energy into a performance, and collapesed from exhaustion just
after. There is something about performing and being a conducter
of emotion and energy to people that takes alot out of you. For
some of us it is not just playing music, (as you would have us
believe) but something much more that it is beyond description. So
please dont diminish what i do. Ive done deco at dozens of my own
events, and helped out with others somewhere near the hundreds,
but have you ever stood on my side of the fence??
Personally I
would much, much rather see a well deco’d out gathering than not,
I have  even gone to an event with a shitty lineup to see a
good deco artist. Case in point i endured a 3hour set of Void ( or
A-void as they are called in certain psy circles) just to go to an
event to see the artwork of Punk-a-delic (whio is mindblowing
btw), but a sacred space can be made by good intentions, and a
little heart, and perhaps a alter.  With the proper setting
(which your location is fantastic and i cant help but feel that
because you see it all the time you are taking it for granted),
all thats needed is the right  music and vibe. Over the top
deco is just the icing on the cake, but i disagree whole heartadly
that deco is the distinguishing difference between a gathering of
this nature and a rave.

I can go back and forth with you on
this , with your views versus mine for pages of conversation i am
sure,  but this will get us no where, where we are both
right, and we are both wrong.  so in the interest of not
hijacking this thread any further, Let us just say  it really
boils down to personal vision and let us let things move on
Feel
free to retort if you wish, but i will no longer respond to this
topic as i have said my piece.

to prog to psy, with the psy not coming on untill around 4am. By
that time the crowds should be amped and waiting for it, and still

thats
a great idea paradigm…. hmm that sounds like a good idea for a
single night event where you can go into the afternoon../..

the
friday night curse will always be, where everyone just worked all
week and drove all day to get to the event, by the middle of the
night even with “Help” its hard to power thru.. we have
this problem a lot being far away from just about
everywhere….
either that or the saturday night curse, where
everyeone raged on friday and then feelin all wore out on saturday
night, missing all the action after a night and day of
raging, and gettin a little sleep before the big day sunday which
usually involves drivin home and goin back to work on
monday.
oof.

and yeah, whether its a rave or not, some
people dance, some not. its not as disrespect, its just about
everyone doing thier thing.  to me, thats what raving was
about and its the same thing tranceparties are about too. tho i
think psy festivals are one or 42 rungs up the ladder from raves,
at least in peoples mindset and evolution….

and yeah deco
takes a long time… i know all about it. spandex, ladders, blah
blah. oof. building and hanging the zome at SEOA kicked my
ass.
and yeah  djin’ takes a long time to make
connections, develop a style, prep/pick out rockers, and lots of
mental energy to hold all those bindis in place,
and for me i
cant dj without dancing, and we all know how much energy that
takes!  my set in the afternoon heat at SEOA kicked my ass.

and then one of the zome models fell down, more work on deco.
yay!
before anyone can bitch about one or the other, try doing
both at the same time…. we all have our roles, and we choose
them. some of us like having our ass kicked more than
others….

as far as sacred spaces go, you dont need
“STUFF” to do that. its all in mindset.  spandex,
lights, crystals, geometric stuff, theyre just eye candy right? or
are they… i do believe that, like yantra, sacred geometry and
vivid colors represent divine energetic balance that our
subconscious mind can feed on and align with.  but it can be
done in the forest, desert or on the beach or anywhere else theres
no blacklights. its funny though, humans and thier talismans…so
is it worth all the work? i would think not sometimes, though i
wouldnt have spent days of my life working crazy deco hours for
almost every single one of our parties, if i didnt beleive it was
NECESSARY. nothin like a gemini for some contrasting statements.
;)

but what counts is that youre all doing it.
doing it
up.
doing it well.
its all trial and error.
lessons
learned.
and experiences had at the last party are not the
same at the next.
same goes for the learning…. its an
evolutionary process.
or at least as someone sometime said,
“doing the same thing over and over again is either insanity,
or rhythm.”
or something like that.

i love hearing
that you guys had a safe, well attended, fun event.
i love
hearing how well everyone played and knowing all the smiles were
there
i missed you guys, snif*
see you next time for sure.

boom.

last weekend happen.  It was my first Chilluminati event and
I was overwhelmed by how amazing it was.  I have never seen
such a nice, open, helpful and caring bunch of people in one
place.  It inspired me.  Reconnecting with nature was
something I badly needed to do and thanks to you guys I got the

Big thanks to Paul and Julie for getting me to

You really have a special scene going on and I hope it
grows as a movement so it will spread across the planet.

Keep
up the good and important work.  My soul was replenished and
I thank everyone there for that.

Yeah Chris, you made it onto the forum!  Thank you for
traveling to the party and trusting it would be good for the
spirit.  Chris is an old friend and it was great to get our
little group of friends out to a party together.

I do
totally belive that good hearted old skool ravers would totally
dig our scene.  Our people are so in it for all the right
reasons.  Even if an old party person attends one of our
events for one last party they should come to one of our parties.
If they had any bad vibe’s from the rave scene then our scene is a
wonderful way to heal and make peace with “rave”.
Or if someone ends up attending a couple parties a year or just
one, I think it’s a perfect tune-up to the spirit.

I’ll

By the way, I really enjoyed the industrial dance set. The

That’s kind of a macho approach. It works for me but not
for everyone. People get involved in these parties for many
reasons and when they feel shortchanged, they will eventually just
walk. And not everyone is easily replaceable. Some losses can be
disastrous, particularly when they were working for free or at a
loss, and we might not have the money to hire a replacement.

I had an absolute blast …. thank you everyone for the awesome
vibe. It felt so much more like family this time around.
Considering the cold and the massive crowd on the dancefloor :P I
think the feel of this festival was more social… sitting around
the camfire and talking. did so much more of that this time around
that my mind and body came out feeling totally refreshed. this was
the perfect end to the outdoor season….the dancefloor balagan
will have to wait for an indoor or next summer.

Medicin …
whoooooaa. What a set. I second that he should be back every time!
:) And he was on the dancefloor all thru too! Thank you!!
:)

Primordial Ooze! Better than I’ve ever heard them
before. And everyone said that… including the folks who had
heard em play at Worldbridge. Hope that quality keeps getting
better… these guys will def. go places.

Meghans set was
probably one of the best opening 30 mins of a dark set I have ever
heard…. so tribal. I have this video of my head of everyone on
the dancefloor thumping the ground with their feet to that groovy
dark sound…. aaah wonderful. :D

Shais set rearraged the
clouds … till the point of that power outage! :( … but it was
one of my most memorable too… deep trips!

The Random and
Paradigm combo was probably one of the best I’ve ever heard. All
you saturday night sleepers suck! You missed one heck of a sunrise
soundtrack. Thank you guys for playing such stellar sets  for
the few of us that were there on the floor.

Kuorosh Dini
and Josh Brill were pure magic. The real psychedelic musicians.
Kuorosh played right after I did…. so I got to see him set up.
As soon as I was done, he sat down on his synth/piano, closed his
eyes and played pure psychedelic chords…. I could feel the
energy around him. Beautiful sounds. Fluid… thought provoking.
Sounds that can make you cry.
Thank you so much!

Most
of the other sets seemed to blend into the earth … there wasnt a
single time that I heard a track/set/any sound, and cringed….
that was a first for me. Everyone seemed to put their best into
the music… wish it had been the same for the dancefloor.

The
buddha alter was amazing! The pumpkin patch for the best thing
ever! hahahha I’m still cracking up. Pauldo .. u rock! :) Thank u!
:)

Psygoof…. You suck!  And so do you Damon for
leaving on Saturday with half my smoke. Booooo. :P

Cant
wait to go back to NCN. Second time around was amazing. Hope we
have more events there.

see you all again
soon.

and I really liked the Shri Yantra that ended

We should always

And I

I would love to Varun.

Deco is quickly becoming too
much work and losing its “fun” value for me. I felt like
all I did at the event was work on deco with very little direct
acknowledgment. It didn’t help matters when some of my materials
walked off. I know that the stretchy tube stuff is enticing but I
do have a limited supply that seems to diminish after each event.
A couple even had the nerve to pull some out of Pauldo’s scarecrow
and run off with it. ??? I don’t mind people playing with it but
don’t just take it so that nobody else can enjoy it.  >:(
This is why Jef has been talking soo much about deco
appreciation.

Now that I am in Grad school, I
cannot do everything. :-\ Realistically, I won’t be able to do any
more events that are during the school year. This last one nearly
kicked my ass as I had a paper due this week that barely got done.
I will be able to do deco for one or two events in the summer and
that’s it.

We will still do at least 2 events a year and we will show up
to do and finish deco several days before the event begins. Like
for CSFM we would drive up on Wednesday so we could have had all
day Thursday to do deco. That’s the only way we will ever do it
again. Of course that eats into our vacation time, and I lose
money on taking days off work. so that’s why we expect to be only
able to do it maybe twice a year.

So if there are any deco
artists out there you have your chance now to step in.

I finally recognized you…after I walked past you.
Then I was too shy to turn around and say hello.  I really am
very shy believe it or not.  I did say to myself though ”
I shall challenge my shyness and say hi to that Phil guy the next
time I see him”.  Always worried people would think I’m
a stalker or something if I say I know them just from their pic or
profile or postings on a forum thing.  It would actually be
the polite thing to do to stop and say hello if you recognize
someone.  I did intro myself to Ben’s brother though but only
because you guys look so much alike that I just knew he was your
brother.    ;D

I knew that that was you too!  Though this damn
shyness thing is pretty common.  I’m typing right now with
one hand as the other is in a splint (damn ganglion cysts!)
so I would type more but its kinda hard.  I had a lot of
fun.  Cold was a nice change from the heat at the past
events,  Damn wind though.  I enjoyed the deco and the
sound.  I look forward to seeing all of you again
soon!

Again I would ramble more but its hard the day after
surgery… but I enjoyed the entire weekend and you all have my
deepest gratitude for an excellent vacation from my 9-5

one final note:

Devorah and I felt that this was about the smoothest event
ever, though Secret Fire 2005 was also pretty smooth sailing.

We
were delighted with the weather and the clear skies which allowed
us to see the Full Moon so clearly. The weather was amazing
considering snow fell in Chicago and Black River Falls for the
first time, three days later.

Didn’t get to pay much
attention to the music so can’t comment on that. I did get to meet
more people and start more conversations than at any previous
event.

Learned some things about how we want to participate
at future events, so it was a valuable experience for both of
us.

NCN management loved you all, thanks for being such
great campers and Green people. You once again left a clean
campground, and we are all very thankful about that. I loved
meeting old friends, and plan to have more time to talk and get to
know you in 2007.

I’d be interested in stage deco.  always wanted to build a
uv activated full scale crystalline lattice model.  Next
season I will get in touch with you guys as the events are comming
together.  Again, it was a great party.  One guy that
just moved to the midwest said that this was what he’d always been
looking for.  Lots of talk about how unique the vibe was from
new faces.  when you have something like this, I can see
where it is a bigger issue to sacrifice integrity for head count.
Thanks to all for posting their pics, and to all coordinating the
event.

Glad you liked the party and now want to contribute to deco
next time around.  I would love to see a whole lineup of
different uv installations at the next weekender party next
summer.

Ha ha

seriously, I’d love to have a bunch of people step up and
do more art.  Maybe like in the large open space between the
two main stages that have been setup.  Maybe like 5 or 6
lined up to entertain the brains.  I’m thinking of maybe
doing something larger on the other side of the lake so it can
reflect off the water at night and people can eyeball it from the
chill stage.

I wanna hear people say, “Chilluminati
pawtees is the shiznit when it comes to deco”!

I think we should set up a bunch of those fiber optic half
sphere thingies.

When you are “having a spiritual
experience” they look like balls of lightning if you
manipulate them with your hands. (we played with one for 4 hours
last weekend)

You said it brother.

A series of installations as you
walked between stages would be an amazing progression. That’s what
it’s about, to me.

Just out o curiosity - why did you have us set up that big tent
by the mainstage on saturday? Was it cuz we were standing around
doing nothing and you had an extra tent? Or did you just want to
see if you could mobilize us?

well, we weren’t sure how we were going to use it, or if people
were going to use it. We had it and even if the weather was good,
we  thought maybe it would be a place where people could sit
on the ground at night because the tent would keep the ground
drier.

In the future we will probably only put up the tent
in hot/sunny or wet weather, since people don’t really seem to use
the tent otherwise.

Sorry for the hassle but it was fun
wasn’t it?

Medisin has no compare, no equal. In a world of hideous mutants, he is the lone chainsaw wielding white guy. Mock him only if you do not value your life.
S.O.T. ~ TOUCH SamadhiDivine Balance, Chicago
S.O.T. is a primal force in the North American scene. He is a hunter trained in the Siberian steppes by Buryat shamans; he tracks his musical prey with cunning and stealth. Donning the skin of an elk, you will not see his advance until he is upon you. Then it will be too late.
Kaiser Soze ~ TOUCH SamadhiDivine Balance, Milwaukee
Kaiser is the Katrina of Midwestern psytrance. He looms off your coastline and, before you can react, will demolish and flood your senses. He will leave you a battered refugee. You will be begging for federal relief when Kaiser is through with you.

Now known mostly as a leader in the Wisconsin leather fashion underground, he spins for us an epic tale of pounding, throbbing rhythm and good gnomes gone bad. We promise you his hippie killing days are over.
Toki ~ Audiognomes, Madison
Toki is a maker of mischief. A tinkerer. One need only visit his workshop, where teetering junk piles are fashioned into anything from hypnotic mind rays to doomsday dancefloor devices. Geal ~ Audiognomes, Madison
Geal will congeal your mind, and retake that which has been lost.
Safa ~ Data Mandali, Sao Paulo, Brazil

He founded the first non-profit organization of underground electronic musicians on the internet, United Trackers. With tracks climbing on the London radio charts, Asmadeus has established a unique electonica sound, blending elements of classical sound with drum’n'bass, acid, and trip hop. And GAWD DOES HE HAVE A HOT LITTLE ASS.
Yidam ~ Bengaliens, Divine Balance, Chillumafia, Chicago:US/Kolkata:India
(Chillout/Dub/IDM/Ambient) Recently returned from India, Chillumafia don charsibaba’s sound is about BALANCE. Mixing beatless atmospheric music and glitchy IDM, he creates space and time that transcends thump. Integrating organic instruments into the mix adds a live element to his music which is specifically used to send listeners on one long float through the stratosphere.
Derby ~ TOUCH Samadhi, Chicago
Derby’s reputation precedes him as he is now one of the most paradoxically loved and feared of the Chicago secret elite. His roundish and jagged sounds will disorient you then place you firmly on top of the mountain. How you get down is up to you . . . Tips accepted.
Levi ~ Independent, Chicago
With a strong European influence combined with a wide range of electronic music styles, Levi will rock anything from acid to electro or house to techno. All with the common thread of chunky basslines & minimalist beats. She marries the bleeps & glitches of minimal techno with the round, warm baselines of house music, and always shares her undying passion for the underground music scene.
Zero Six ~ Trance Psyndicate, Bloomington
Zero Six has been involved in the electronic music scene since the nineties and began DJing psychedelic trance in 2001. One of the masterminds behind the groundbreaking Illogical Productions Crew and central Illinois’ Trance Psyndicate, he continues to break ground with the mythodical and pulsing waves of energy that make up the path to the iridescent dreamscapes created within his internal Department of Psychoactivity.
Nod ~ TOUCH SamadhiThose People Productions, Asheville, NC
Nod began his explorations of electronic music listening to the twisted psychedelic rock of the ozric tentacles as a wee hippie lad. Throughout the years his ears have traversed far stranger realms of ambience ranging from dub to trip hop to grinding drones and everywhere in between. There’s always something new going on in the land of Nod . . .
Robyo ~ Audiognomes, Rockford
Robyo was born and raised on the wrong side of the tracks in badass Rockford, where he played bass in several well-known punk and hardcore bands. At the age of 21 he moved to Oregon state and discovered electronica. While in the Pacific Northwest, he learned to play the djembe and didjeridoo, but now he is back in the Midwest with a vengeance. Robyo’s style is analogous to the ocean’s tides where tempo, density and color sway though time and a divine oscillating influence. An avid fan of psychedelic production techniques, he prefers tribal, dub, ambient and trance soundscapes.
Damon ~ Divine Balance, Chillumafia, Chicago
Listening to music is never enough. Damon continues to slather you within a seamless intervention of psymbient, downtempo, dub & world music. Within his love of melody & tribal elements he dives into all timelines, releasing a blend of articulately chosen worldly sounds. Listening to music is never enough.
Airyck ~ Subconscious Collective, Iowa
Airyck is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (the other three are Ted, Steve and Shawn). As such he is a peerless commando of the stomping grounds, and his sonic depth charges will burst your reality and leave you sinking into the depths. Take a deep breath.
Psygomin ~ Psi Control, Appleton
PSI Control’s reach over Wisconsin and the Midwest is growing. Once again Psygomin, northeast Wisconsin’s Psychedelic Dance Music Extraordinaire, will venture out to space/time travel to his next destination. Beings from many realms have ventured out into the northern cold to listen to and enjoy the hot cosmic sounds of Psygomin. We promise you, the voices in Psygomin’s head are REAL.
psych0tron ~ Dead Beat Productions, Madison
psych0tron is quickly becoming a staple of the Midwest’s formidable gothic/industrial scene. Getting his start in 1999, psych0tron specializes in blending hard dance beats with smooth synthpop, and will be the first to play powernoise, electroindustrial and other brain surgery at a Chilluminati event. When not bringing his trademark deck fury to Madison’s Club Inferno,psych0tron plays drums for local electronic outfit Sensuous Enemy.
Bacon Manager ~ Bacon Management, Addict Records, Milwaukee
When not making prank phone calls to fastfood restaurants and chauffeuring Pharcyde, Bacon Manager aka MC Progressive P can’t remember much of the last two years of his life but he does know that he has that inner tingly feeling. His influences include a laundry list of dub reggae, techno, house, punk, break core, hip-hop, down tempo, IDM, synth-pop and jazz alongside the occasional stand-up comedy or television soundtrack piece as filler.
VIDEO/INTERACTIVE ~~~ DECO
Mason Dixon ~ www.vjmasondixon.com, Chicago
The FIRST AIM OF VJ MASON DIXON is to reawaken a sense of wonder about one’s environment. Their VISUAL ART attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question their relationship with their surroundings.
The Paka Paka Lightshow ~ www.pakapaka.org, Milwaukee
The Paka Paka Lightshow consists of the father & son team Jerry and Reuben Fortier and long time collaborator Dale Kaminski. In 1968, Fortier founded the Eyes of Khamphalous Lightshow in Madison, WI. As the visuals behind the Broadway production of “Warp” and the resident lightshow for the Melkweg and Paradiso clubs in Amsterdam from 1969 to 1972, the Khamphalous Lightshow created a unique psychedelic visual experience. The Paka Paka Lightshow brings this experience into the digital age.
Devorah & The Fixer ~ www.visioncollective.org, Chicago
Born in the shadow of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Devorah & The Fixer bring the sweet scent of thermonuclear salvation to every Chilluminati party. Award-winning artist Devorah and The Fixer have done deco for every Chilluminati party, and for other events such as Entheon. Their approach is a mixture of original art combined with found objects, fabric, home furnishings used in ways other than intended, and theatrical materials, for the transformation of experiential space.
Microcosm ~ Microcosm Muse Productions, Audiognomes, Chicago
Microcosm (or “Cosm” for short) was once a proud member of the trancers, children of the late night limitation. Constantly seeking something a little bit more creative within sound, she pushed and sought at every event she could to find something…something…but what? Then one fateful night she heard it. At first unsure of what it was, she tiptoed towards it, peered at it with her ears and found something more beautiful then anything she had heard before : Psy. Like an alien autopsy it probed in and injected her with new life. She now eats three healthy doses of Psy a day. You might also see her about, covered in strange neon ribbons, or stomping about in mad fashion on the dancefloor. Just be careful, for she is known to grab one by the hand to twirl them dizzy.
Yidam ~ Bengaliens, Divine Balance, Chillumafia, Chicago:US/Kolkata:India
Yidam brings us beautiful tapestries! Look at the pretty colors!
Dimitry ~ Chicago
