Chicagoland

Chicagoland recurring noncommercial, "quasi trance" dance events

These do not generally feature psychedelic trance or any other kind of electronic trance. In fact there may be no electronic music of any kind. These events are often guided by some kind of alternate spiritual structure. You might hear drumming, world music, chanting, and the music may be interrupted by yoga, ritual, and other New Age isms. They are worth checking out because there is plenty of creativity here, and they are generally dance-oriented events.

TranceZenDance http://www.tzdtribe.com A long-running dance event that floats around Chicago between different venues.

First friday of the month: Eight:18@Unity. This is a generally high energy dance event at Unity Temple church. Music alternates with yoga, New Age ritual. http://www.unitychicago.org/calendar

Another first friday event: First Fridays at Museum of Contemporary Art. This is mostly house music. A cool venue but not the strongest dance event. http://www.mcachicago.com

Sanctuary at Lake Street Church in Evanston. I haven't been to this event.

Best Chicago clubs (IMHO)

Smart Bar The coolest bar for those who just want to dance. Great local DJs.
Vision Nightclub Vision has the most money to bring in top talent and European DJs, but it can get very crowded and is a meat market, very swanky. Good for mainstream commercial trance.
Sound Bar Good acts but a swanky club with dress code. Good for mainstream commercial trance.
Neo The only club that still routinely spins industrial music.
